Be you
We live in a world with so many unspoken rules surrounding the terrifying era of post-graduate job-hunting — whether it be how to make a portfolio site, how to design, how to speak, how to sit, how to breathe.
One day, during an abnormally long layover at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, I realized that it is simply impossible to fit the expected mold that a plethora of different companies require. So, I am just going to do what I know best: be ella and embrace the adventure ahead as I navigate my post-graduate future.
I have always had an insatiable want to continuously know more, learn more, and simply live more. In my professional endeavors, I hope to find myself in a role where I am constantly developing my skill set while learning more about who I am through the experiences of those around me.
While I may not be the most knowledgeable design student and spent one too may hours in my failed nursing era (shout out that microbiology lab on my transcript!) I want to learn, I want to mold my skills to better fit your company and your needs, and finally I want to breathe and allow myself to have a little fun.
Life is too short not to.
With love,
Ella
MY WORK
My journey to design was not exactly streamlined. While I wish that I could say that I’ve been classically trained for years — I really have found my love and want to work in a design-related field over the last year.
I started off as a Spanish Education major at NC State University, then I transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill to study Nursing, one failed anatomy and physiology course later, and I started back at square one.
What stayed constant during this time? I kept doodling on the side of my microbiology lab reports and constantly making my own fonts as I spent too much time on design for my mock lesson plans. I realized that I was running from the idea of working in a field in which I could be creative because it didn’t seem practical, but attending Hussman’s School of Media and Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill has introduced me to a world of successful creatives who were able to design all while keeping the lights on for their family.
While at UNC, I studied four main topics: Graphic Design, Social Media Strategy, User Interface and User Experience Research and Design, and finally Web Development through the coding languages: HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
LOVE WHAT YOU DO.
DO WHAT YOU LOVE.
